Taking the bus

Taking the bus

The Taormina Link provides a direct bus connection between Taormina-Giardini railway station and Taormina’s centre. Its stop is in the square in front of the station, so you can make the onward connection there without first travelling into the old town by car.

Interbus also runs coach services to Giardini Naxos, Letojanni, Castelmola and Catania Airport. Routes and services can change, so check the official site before you go: consult ASM Taormina for local bus services and Interbus for its coach routes. For transport within Giardini Naxos, local buses, trains and walking routes are useful to consider alongside the Taormina connection.

Using Taormina-Giardini railway station

You can take a regional train to Taormina-Giardini and continue by bus to Taormina’s centre. Taormina-Giardini station is about a 9-minute drive from Hotel Nike, a four-star hotel in Giardini Naxos.

Driving and parking

Driving and parking

Driving gives you a direct way to reach Taormina, but public parking is the practical choice for visiting its centre. The Taormina Hotel Association identifies Porta Catania, Porta Pasquale and Lumbi as public car parks; Lumbi has a free shuttle to the town centre.

ASM Taormina describes Piano Porto as an uncovered car park with 300 spaces and a shuttle to the historic centre and event venues.

Access rules can change, including during high season or special events. Check current municipal signs and notices before driving into town. For the parking choices relevant to the theatre, Taormina parking near the Greek Theatre can help you plan where to leave the car.

Walking and hill access

Taormina’s old town is mostly pedestrianised, and side streets leading to Corso Umberto include flights of steps. From Corso Umberto, the entrance to the Ancient Theatre is a short uphill walk, so include that final climb when planning your visit.

A guide to Greek Theatre tickets, hours and visiting tips covers practical details for time at the site.

Choosing the best option for your visit

Choose the Taormina Link for a direct bus connection from Taormina-Giardini station, or take a regional train and buy an integrated train-and-bus ticket to Taormina Centro. Driving is another option if you want to use a public car park and, where available, its shuttle into town.

Once in the centre, allow for the uphill walk to the theatre entrance and the steps on some streets. Most of Taormina’s old town is pedestrianised, so a car will not take you all the way to the site.
